Dental

Dental Assistant I: Business Administration

(High school students only or adult fee-based course)

Students will learn dental terminology, tooth anatomy, dental charting, preventative care, scheduling, and insurance procedures. Also included in this course is anatomy, infection control, standard precaution, CPR certification, preventative dentistry, and the business functions of an office. Students must receive a Certificate of Completion to meet the prerequisite requirement for Dental Assistant II: Chairside.

Dental Assistant II: Chairside

(High school students only or adult fee-based course)

Prerequisite:  Certificate of Completion of Dental Assistant I: Business Administration and/or with instructor approval(Biological Science credit for CUSD high school students.)  

This course prepares students to assist dentists and dental hygienists in patient care. Classroom instruction and hands-on learning include: instrument identification, dental treatment procedures, manipulation of materials, manipulation of dental materials, regulatory compliance, treatment room set-ups.  A dental uniform will be provided to each student. Internship assignment required.

Dental Radiology

 (Adult fee-based course)

Prerequisite:  Must be currently employed or interning in the dental profession and be 17 or older and/or have instructor approval. 

This course provides radiation theory, safety, protection and clinical experience in compliance with the guidelines determined by the California Board of Dental Examiners. This course is approved/accredited through the California Board of Dental Examiners. Dental Radiography certificate issued upon successful completion of course requirements. In addition to classroom instruction, 36 hours in a worksite/internship site taking radiographs on patients is required.

Dental Coronal Polishing

(Adult fee-based course)

Safely perform coronal polishing. Students must pass a written and clinical exam with 70% or better to obtain the certification through the dental board.
