COURSE DESCRIPTION:   

This course will provide students an overview of the fire service as an occupational pathway within the public services industry sector including the diverse roles, duties, and skills required in “all-risk” modern day firefighting. Students will participate in basic manipulative skills, develop goal setting for 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year periods, and write effective resumes. Character traits, physical & mental fitness, critical thinking, and teamwork will be emphasized as basic requirements of firefighters. This competency-based course utilizes IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting and is matriculated with Santa Ana College for dual-credit with a grade of B or higher.
